One item on my bucket list when I retired was to take up drawing and/or painting once again. I hadn’t done either in about 50–60 years; however, a promise is a promise. I registered for a drawing class at Oasis and found, much to my surprise, that working in pastels and acrylics brought me pleasure far beyond my memories. A truly magical outcome. I’ve taken a number of drawing and painting classes with Oasis and IUPUI continuing studies.
Without question, Bill Nolan is the best teacher I’ve had.
He presents challenges, usually more than one, to help students try new things, media and techniques. He is sensitive about a student’s ownership of his/her work, and he is gentle in his critiquing. He has a good sense of humor, essential when dealing with “grown-ups.”
With Bill’s encouragement, I entered a juried show and one of my paintings was selected.

Bill Nolan and his co-trainer Jeff Ashcraft are talented artists that
have helped me develop art skills I never knew I had. When you retire
and look for ways to entertain yourself you will eventually come across
OASIS, which will lead you to art classes with these two wonderful
gentlemen. They have taught me watercolor painting, drawing, and oil
painting. All their classes have been instructional, entertaining, and
relaxing. I look forward to many more sessions with them.
